The 'Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund'
Applications approaching the deadline for scholarships Closing dates are fast approaching for students wishing to apply for this years scholarship bursaries, to date there are still opportunities for more students to benefit from Scholarship funding for October this year. Anyone requiring further information at this stage should contact widening participation officer Geeta Uppal at the Institute. Sporting Scholarship It has been decided to offer a sporting scholarship this year, with plans to hold a 'Superstars' event in the future with funds going to the Charity it was felt fitting to award a sporting scholarship. Lisa loved sport, she loved soccer-especially the 'Saints', she had trials with Southampton Ladies and also liked to play badminton, swimming and kick boxing! First Students Benefit from Scholarship Fund At a moving ceremony at Southampton Institute carried out on October 7th four students received the first part of their annual bursary from the Lisa Wilson Scholarship Award. The bursaries were presented by Lisa's mum Tricia Wilson who was joined by her husband Clive and her brothers Scott and Ross along with Kelly Wilson Lisa's sister in law. Around twenty people attended the ceremony including Geeta Uppal widening participation officer from the Institute who has given so much to the organisation of these awards. Tom Thomas Dean of Southampton Institute Business School said a few words about the Fund and the benefits it would bring to students and introduced Clive Wilson who wished the students every success, he said "Lisa would be proud to know that she had helped these students further their education and achieve their University dream just like she had done".

The Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund given Charitable Status.After a long protracted procedure Lisa's Scholarship Fund has now been recognised by the Charities Commission and awarded Charitable status. This should enable donations to go a lot further by claiming tax relief. It also is likely to receive more support as a local charity in this area where there are so many deserving causes.
Student receives bursary to take Degree course.
Madina Boyo-jalloh has been awarded a bursary to enable her to progress onto a B A course at Southampton Institute.

Southampton Stags to support fund
The Southampton based American Football team the 'Stags' which is a combined team between Southampton institute and Southampton Uni has offered to help with fund raising for the Scholarship Fund. As well as the football team there is a team of cheerleaders, the intention is to hold some fund raising events during the season commencing in October. The 'Stags' are based at Stoneham Lane and play on the astro turf at Wellington. For more information about the 'Stags' contact Angus McKechnie on 07719 202810.

Lisa and "The Posse" from Uni. The 'Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund' is available to help young people with the cost of higher education.The award will take the form of a bursary. There will be four scholarships , three for new students applying to HND/BA degrees and one for students progressing from HND to BA degree. The scholarships are available to students who have overcome adversity or can demonstrate why he/she needs extra financial help with his/her studies. The scholarship funding will be up to a maximum of £1,000 per year. This would be renewed annually. The Fund to date. To date we have received over £60,000 in donations to the Fund. See below or visit the home page for details of fund raising events. Qualifying criteria for entry to HND and BA courses. To be considered for a scholarship applicants; 1) Must have been accepted for a place on a course within Southampton Institute. 2) State in writing the adversity they have overcome and/or demonstrate why he/she needs extra financial help with the cost of studies. 3) Provide a letter of support from a college tutor. 4) Successful applicants for HND courses will receive funding of up to £1000 per year subject to annual review. Further funding will be available for HND students progressing onto a degree course after completing their HND to receive a one off payment of a £1000 maximum. A written account will be required from the student to illustrate how they will benefit from this award. This should not exceed one side of A4. 5) Successful applicants for BA degree courses will receive funding of up to £1000 per year subject to annual review. A written account will be required from the student to demonstrate how they will benefit from this award. This should not exceed one side of A4. Applications and Deadlines. The closing date for applications will be 11th July each year. Selection will take place in August for commencement of the scholarship bursary in the October of the same year. Applicants will be informed of the outcome no later than 1st September. Payments of this bursary will be made by cheque in two parts; first payment in October and second payment in February. Every year one student will be selected for their 'special achievement' when graduating. This will be in recognition of their special effort. The student will be presented with a prize of £100 of book tokens at the graduation ceremony.
