9th Lisa Wilson Golf Day record success

The ninth Lisa Wilson Golf Day took place at Wellow Golf Club in Hampshire on Saturday July 30th.  124 members played in the main competition and some 36 friends and guests participated in the guests’ competition. The weather was perfect for golf, very still, no rain, and at about 2.30pm glorious sunshine lit up the entire golf course.

As usual, it was a strongly contested event; Jim Hatball won the men’s trophy, Chris Batt won the ladies’, with Max Leigh winning the Junior and Students’ competition. For the guests, Andy West beat off all challengers to win on his first time playing, and Wendy Stoddard managed to win the ladies’ trophy.

In the evening some 200 people filled the clubhouse for the prize giving. Clive Wilson thanked everyone for the amazing turnout and fantastic financial support which saw the charity bring in over £8000 with the raffle and silent auction – a record for the event.

Following the prize-giving, Lucie Campbell–the latest student to receive a bursary from the charity–sang two numbers on her solo debut. The second song ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ was dedicated to Lisa as one of her favorite songs when she was little. The atmosphere was gripping and extremely moving as Lucie completed her second number. She is a bright talent who touched everyone’s heart on the night. It is hoped that Lucie will go on to fulfill her dreams of becoming a West End leading lady.

Following the formalities, everyone was entertained by the Tribute Show who did two one hour slots with really brilliant performances as Freddie Mercury, Robbie Williams, Cher, Madonna, and Kylie, to name just a few. They really were the best act to date and the dance floor was buzzing until well past midnight.

This event brought the money raised by the charity to £218,000, a fantastic legacy to Lisa, which amounts to over 200 years of education.

Lisa keeps on winning!

Back in October 2004, the charity launched a rowing boat named Lisa The Daddy for use by the Solent University’s Rowing Club. We recently received this letter from club president Robin Mills, about the success of the club and the boat.

Dear Clive and Patricia,

i have never met you but but me and a few of my fellow rowers thought we would just send you a little message to let you know what weve been doing at the Solent university rowing club recently, and more in-particularly what has been going on with the boat you kindly donated a few years back the “Lisa the Daddy” read more

Fontwell Race Day raises over £7000

It had been billed as a triple celebration; The Royal Wedding, Clive & Tricia’s 40th Wedding Anniversary and their company; SES Autoparts 20th Anniversary.

Some 66 guests attended the event at Fontwell park which as well as being a triple celebration had been organised as a fundraiser to celebrate the life of Lisa Wilson.

With everyone in great spirits following the Royal Wedding earlier that day, the main event on the race card was ‘The Lisa Wilson Scholarship Fund’ handicap chase.

Over 5,000 were attending Fontwell where there was a raffle, a bucket collection, a silent auction and the main auction took part in the main restaurant and collectively raised in excess of £7,000.

Clive Wilson spoke about the charity in the marquee and in the main restaurant before the auction as well as being interviewed by Channel 4’s Derek Thompson for the television.

The auction consisted of some fantastic prizes that had been provided by people from the horse racing world, some major worldwide celebrities and friends who contributed holidays; Channel 4 put up a day at the races, Mick Channon had put up a day to his stables at West Isley, and the famous Godolphin stables had donated a set of silks signed by Frankie Dettori and Ahmed Ajtebi. Jenson Button had donated a signed cap and picture which were framed, and the World’s Number 1 female recording artist, Celine Dion, had donated a personally signed photograph. On top of this Clive’s and Tricia’s friends, Paul and Ross Tomlinson, donated a holiday in Florida which sold for over £1,000, Nigel and Fiona Morgan donated a week in their holiday home in Switzerland, and Steve and Shirley Thomas donated a week at their holiday home in Cyprus.

Following the horse racing there was a Take That tribute band, and the evening finished with a bang with a spectacular firework display. The event was a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody.

Thank you all for your most generous support.
